Is anyone else still reeling from the whiplash of November? It was a jam-packed month of Retrogrades starting and stopping, on top of multiple ingresses and activations. In December, we are regaining a little bit of clarity and taking on some worthy responsibilities. In this post, I share what you need to know about 3 ingresses, 2 retrogrades, and 1 square transit. There are 15 other aspect-related astrological events, plus the regular moon ingresses (every 2-3 days), and Sun entering Sagittarius. Without further ado, let's discuss the December 2025 Astrology!

Mars Squares Saturn

For our first transit we'll be talking about an aspect happening on December 8th at 7:16pm EST: Mars squaring Saturn. In Astrology, a Square occurs when two celestial bodies are 90° apart within the Zodiac. They represent a tension that builds so you can learn a tough lesson. Squares often feel uncomfortable in real-time, but do pay off later as we work through them. The two players involved are known as the malefic planets, which a reputation for being more challenging. When put in the "wrong environment" they create obstacles for us. In the grand scheme, Mars is the planet of action, impulsivity, and drive, while Saturn wants forward progress via building structures and a maturity growth arc. To summarize: we have two sometimes tough planets engaged in an uncomfortable situation.

When Mars reaches 25º15' of Sagittarius and Saturn (still in its post-retrograde shadow period) reaches that same degree point, the square goes exact. In this energy portal we can expect our strong impulse to move forward being obstructed and ultimately triggering frustration and pent up energy. To best handle with care, you'll want to find healthy outlets (think Saturn-friendly containers) into which you can channel that martian frustration. Look to your Natal Chart for the two Houses at these degree points, because they post the backdrop upon which this square will play out. As a point of reference, the last time this square happened where Mars was in Sagittarius and Saturn was in Pisces was November 25, 2023.

Neptune Retrograde Ends

For our next transit we're talking about Neptune finally stationing direct and concluding its retrograde between the Mutable Water Sign and Cardinal Fire Sign. Neptune first stationed retrograde on July 4th of this year; for an overview check out my blog post and YouTube video. The planet of deception and illusion is in the process of switching Signs after moving through Pisces since February 3, 2012. For details on that transition check out my March blog post. After that brief preview period, ingressing into Aries on March 30th, it stationed retrograde to crawl back into Pisces, where it has been retreating for the last five months.

On December 10th at 7:21am EST, Neptune officially halts at 29º22' of Pisces and moves direct once again. As an outer planet its annual retrogrades are pretty slow. So slow in fact that this Post-Shadow will end two weeks after the next Pre-Shadow begins in March 2026. The next milestone we care about is Neptune re-entering Aries on January 26, but more details on that next month! For now we're watching Neptune retrace the final less-than-degree of Pisces, experiencing the last wisps of delusion, self-doubt, dreamy expansion, and intense intuitive guidance with the Piscean area of our lives. It won't return to this Sign until 2175...

Mercury Enters Sagittarius & Post-Shadow Ends

Mercury, which is still in its Retrograde Post-Shadow Period at this point in the month, reenters Sagittarius on December 11th at 5:40pm EST. Our mind will still feel a little foggy and hijinx may still be afoot, but at least it's moving in the right direction. We can expect our attention and conversations to turn to spirituality, education, and the universe. Ideas we encountered or mulled over back in late October or early November may crop up again because Mercury is retracing the first 6º degrees of Sagittarius for the third this Fall.

Similar to Neptune, Mercury has been retrograding in a Mutable Sign of the Zodiac. Mercury's journey however has been significantly short because its Retrogrades (including the shadows) last only 4-5 weeks on average. This third and final Mercury Retrograde of 2025 closes up shop on December 16th at 12:38pm EST. When Mercury passes 6º52' Sagittarius, it officially leaves reflection and review behind to plough forward in a new mental landscape until January 1st. Over the coming weeks, our perspective will shift and reorient around the big picture, studying, travel (literal or figurative), and be infused with much-needed playfulness. Mars Enters Capricorn

The planet of action is taking center stage to become the first personal planet to enter the Cardinal Earth Sign of Capricorn (just before Capricorn season begins!). Mars represents motivation, focus, and initiation energy whereas Capricorn is highly ambitious, pragmatic, structured, and a fan of tradition. Mars is exalted in Capricorn which means that it is especially happy and optimized there. The last time Mars transited this Sign was January 4th through February 13th of 2024. This time around it'll be in Capricorn from December 15th at 12:34pm EST until January 23rd of next year. Over the coming weeks we can expect to kick off long-term projects, initiatives that encourage us to steadily grow in the long-term, take charge or lead the way, and generally make progress in the Capricorn area of our chart. This transit provides a fantastic opportunity to get some big accomplishments under your belt!

Venus Enters Capricorn

For final transit of the month let's talk about Venus entering Capricorn on December 24th at 11:26am EST. Venus is the planet of love, balance, finance, and peace. When it enters the emotionally withdrawn, responsible, and dedicated Capricorn, there's a notable energetic contrast from its time in Sagittarius. The most recent Venus through Capricorn transit occurred between November 11th and December 7th of 2024. You can look back at that period for a reference of what to expect as Venus brings its desire for unwinding into a very bound-up Sign. Venus transits Capricorn until January 17, 2026 and over the next three to four weeks we'll welcome an unclenching in the Capricorn areas of our chart to find balance in the systems we've so carefully crafted, increased creativity in our approaches to goal-setting and achievement, as well as evaluating our relationships for a high ROI (i.e., return on investment).
