For January 2026, we're in a wet, swamp environment. It doesn't quite look green exactly, but there's a feeling of grossness. While the water is blue, there is a foam floating on the surface. It's not completely infected, infiltrated, or tarnished, but we have the beginnings of fog rolling in. I keep seeing the bubbles in the foam moving across the surface, but can't identify what's underneath. There's a separation between our perception of our environment (i.e., what's happening in society and culture) and the truth of it. Culture seems especially important; a "veneer" is presented through creating a filter over the reality we're actually facing.
I'm seeing a hand reaching towards the water as if to stick their fingers through the surface by disrupting the foam. Yet, just as the hand reaches out there's somebody on shore shouting "don't do it" as if it's poisonous. Again what's presented is a deception versus what is true. There's a risk factor around sticking their fingers in the water, such as something leaping to bite them or even a toxin or chemical in the water. Despite it presenting as though it's harmless, it's actually sinister for our health and well-being in the immediate future as well as in the long-term.
We pull our hand away from the water, listening to that kind voice and valued member of our support system or local community. They don't seem to be a total stranger, rather someone who has a vested interest in our well-being. We begin to stand up at the waters edge, while wearing a messenger bag, and reach inside to extract a small flip notebook and pen. It's time to write reflections on our experience as well as document this knowledge. Only you and that one person ashore know what's true, and when you journey home you can share with others to benefit society at large. Your personal experience can translate into something on a much larger scale.
I flip over the first card: New Moon in Capricorn, "Step up and Lead." This message is informing us that the power is in our hands to take action. While our initial action had good intentions and was hope-inducing, we needed the support structure and system (that Capricorn loves because it's ruled by Saturn). We are gathering these insights and preparing to launch what will be a new chapter. New Moons are about beginnings so we're going to take this information, plant the seed of those insights by publishing, promoting, or sharing, and then launch forward. In the new chapter, we can be a pioneer at the forefront and of value. We've been there and seen things, plus are now open to learn from our experiences to make adjustments. Our personal growth is essential because Capricorn is both ambitious and seeks steady growth over time.
Reaching the edge of the swamp, we take one last look over our shoulder. There appears to be a bit of fog or vapors from heat rising. It actually was sweltering in the swamp, but we couldn't sense that when we were in the thick of it. Once we step beyond the perimeter, ready to head home, we venture into an open field. We can see more clearly that we were lulled, seduced, and lured towards that pond by its apparent beauty when again it was smoke screens. Now we prepare to enter the wide-open, sunny, beautiful field. Let's flip over the second card: New Moon in Scorpio, "Go Deeper."
We're reminded to not just take our insights and present them on the surface-level, but fully integrate this knowledge. I'm getting a nudge to mention our emotional state. Capricorns are not known to be particularly emotional, whereas Scorpios tend to be very emotionally intense. This lesson involves pairing Scorpio with Capricorn and asks us to take action as that Cardinal Earth Sign (disseminating valuable information from our experiences so we can grow), but our efforts must be supported by reflecting on our emotional processing of that event. Through this journey ahead we must check in on our spiritual side too. We see throughlines and connections, note synchronicities, tap into our intuition, and access a council of our spirit team. This wisdom supports us and gives us the structure and direction for the Capricorn side of this heightened New Moon energy.
And with, that I hope you have a January that's full of emotional and spiritual depth, the courage to step away from what is harming you, and conviction to turn towards a path of leadership. As a result of your efforts, you'll help not only yourself, but the collective!
